When and where is the 2023 Convention being held?

COBA 2023, the Customer Owned Banking Convention, is being held from Sunday 24 September until Tuesday 26 September 2023 at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre, 2684-2690 Gold Coast Hwy, Broadbeach QLD 4218.

What is the dress code for the Convention?

The dress code for the Business Sessions and Welcome Reception is business casual.

The theme for the Convention Dinner will be announced shortly.  Please check back for more details.

Do I have to register for social events?

Yes, you must register to attend all social events. Registration for social events takes place during the registration process. Please refer to the social program page

Are transfers being organised from the airport?

No, transfers are not being organised from the airport to the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre. However, there are several transport options for getting to and from Gold Coast airport including SkyBus, Taxi and shuttle bus services.

Are there Shuttle Buses to the Convention Centre?

No, there are no Convention shuttle buses operating between hotels and the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre.

All Convention hotels are located within walking distance from the Convention Centre.

Are children able to attend the Convention?
Children may attend the Welcome Reception and the Convention Dinner, but must be registered as attending that event and the appropriate fee paid via the registration website.
Please note that alcohol will be served at social functions of COBA 2023 and children attending must be closely supervised at all times.
Children are not able to attend the business sessions.
Information on babysitting services available at the various hotels is included in the hotel information sheets.
How can I be sure my personal details will not be shared?

Customer Owned Banking Association Limited (COBA) is committed to protecting privacy and the confidentiality of personal information. COBA uses an opt-in system for delegates to approve the inclusion of their details in any contact lists made available to contracted Convention sponsors and exhibitors. Any emails you receive purporting to offer contact lists for sale relating to any COBA event are fraudulent. Please do not respond to the sender, click on any links or open any attachments. COBA will never sell contact details or lists to any outside entity.  Always check who the sender is, only COBA and Concept Event Management (CEM) will contact you regarding our Convention. Please contact us if you receive any communication that you are unsure about.

What sustainable practices does COBA Convention follow and how can I help?

COBA Convention aims to support sustainable practices and reduce the impact of events on the environment. All printed materials are kept to a minimum, and each year we work towards reducing these further. Sponsors are encouraged to provide eco-friendly items for satchel inserts rather than information leaflets. Eco-friendly fully recyclable name badges are provided to attendees and satchel bags are chosen based on environmentally sustainable materials and practices. Recycling boxes are provided at the end of the event for lanyards, name badges, program books and other recyclable items.

Attendees are encouraged to use electronic resources including the attendee app or Convention website. They are also encouraged to consider offsetting their carbon footprint when booking flights. All accommodation options available through the secretariat are within walking distance to the Convention venue.

Will CPD points apply and how do I claim?

CPD points for the Convention will be calculated based on session length with 1 hour = 1 CPD point.  If attending sessions relevant to your role responsibilities and professional credentials, you may be able to record CPD points towards your annual accrual requirements.  Please refer to your Learning & Development specialists or professional associations to confirm. A general certificate of attendance will be sent post event.

Getting to and from Coolangatta Airport

There are many different ways to get to/from Coolangatta Airport which sits roughly 27km from Gold Coast’s CBD.

Taxi
Gold Coast CBD is approximately a 35-minute ride away and will cost about $60-$85 one way. A taxi rank is conveniently located at the southern end of the terminal, outside the domestic arrivals area.

Gold Coast Cabs are easy to spot, as they display a lamp on the cab roof that are white If the rooftop lamp is lit, the taxi is usually unoccupied and available for hire. For easy bookings, GC Cabs has a mobile app, online booking system, automated phone bookings and a 24/7 contact centre.

Sky Bus
The SkyBus Gold Coast Airport Shuttle is a dedicated service connecting the Gold Coast Airport to Gold Coast’s most popular tourist locations. The Gold Coast Airport Shuttle services all flights, 7 days a week from Tweed Heads to Main Beach.

The SkyBus departs right outside the terminal building and is equipped with free WiFi, is modern and comfortable and has industry leading vehicle presentation. Tickets can be purchased online or at ticket booths at the airport.

Rental Car
Hiring a rental car at Coolangatta Airport gives you the freedom to control your own schedule and explore what Gold Coast has to offer. Car rental customer service desks are located opposite the arrivals area of the Coolangatta Airport.

Parking
The Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre has undercover car spaces available for short-term parking. A $12 inclusive of GST flat rate is charged for car parking at the centre. For more information, please visit: https://www.gccec.com.au/parking.html

Public Transport – Getting Around

Visitors to the Gold Coast are able to travel across the city on one cashless ticket called go card, making getting around simple and cost effective. Issued by Queensland Department of Transport, the go card is a touch-on touch-off system that can be used on the city’s buses, trains and trams. A go card can be purchased over the phone (13 12 30), online and at retail outlets such as 7-Eleven.

Inner City Trams
The Gold Coast enjoys a 13-kilometre integrated tram system, the G Link, which services 16 tram stations from Helensvale to Broadbeach South. The tram is convenient for travel between hotspots along the Gold Coast, such as Surfers Paradise or Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.

Rail Services Gold Coast
Brisbane’s Airtrain connects passengers from the Brisbane Airport to the city in 20 minutes, and travels express to the Gold Coast. Passengers can catch Airtrain and Tram for travel to the heart of Surfers Paradise via a transfer at Helensvale rail station to the G: link tram service.

You can pre-book tickets online for travel between Brisbane Airport and every station in South East Queensland. All on-line ticket purchases receive a discount.  The fare from the Airport to Broadbeach one-way is  just AUD42.60 at the time of writing (subject to change).  Group fares attract substantial discounts, starting with the “City Duo Saver” for two people travelling together.
